On 24th June 2021, in the case of Dr. Palaparthy Subrahmanya … vs Union Of India, The Andhra Pradesh High Court asked the Central and the State Government to send response on the allocation of the Amphotericin B injections among the states of India. The court has also asked the state to send a response on the steps they are taking to tackle the third wave of the COVID 19 pandemic.
The court ordered the Assistant Solicitor General, Mr. N. Harinath to file a memo indicating the allocation of Liposomal Amphotericin B injections among the different states of India from May 2021. The court remarked that the memo prepared shall indicate the number of active cases of Mucormycosis and also how much Liposomal Amphotericin B injections are available.
The court observed that the centre should ensure that more allocations are being provided to Andhra Pradesh, in case the earlier allocation are not duly fulfilled. In reference to the installation of the PSA units, the court observed that around 5 PSA units are received, but are not operational as some ancillary work is remaining. The memo regarding the same has to be submitted too by next date which is 9th July 2021. The court also directed the Union of India to evenly balance the distribution of the 55 PSA units that has been sanctioned among the states as per demand. In regards to the third wave of the COVID 19 pandemic, the court has ordered the state government to indicate the steps that the state government is undertaking or has already undertaken to tackle this situation.
